Gardening
Gardening is the practice of growing flowers and plants. In Nigeria, the most common plants cultivated in gardens include vegetables of different kinds (waterleaf, ugwu, green vegetables). Some also plant fruits and flowers of different colours. Depending on what you want, it could be giant flowers or small ones, or a good combination of both. Flowers can also be planted in colourful vases that are well arranged. Whatever you do, regular tending of the garden matters most. This is why many people don’t invest their time into gardening because it requires a level of attention and dedication.

Playhouse
You can also build a simple playhouse for your kids. Kids love to have a place of their own where they can run to when they want to read, be alone with their pets or when they are not happy with you. It also creates a different space different from their rooms, where they can play games and interact with their friends.
Tire Playground
Tires are also great in utilizing excess space while also beautifying it. Get several tires of same or different sizes. Partly sink them into the soil at regular intervals such that the space between each tire is uniform throughout. Kids can crawl through the holes, move to the next one and do same. Or they can jump over each tire, run to the next and jump again, like a game of hurdles. This game is even better when the tires are arranged in rows, two or more kids can play at the same time, compete with each other and have fun. This is fantastic entertainment for kids.

Giant Scrabble Set
Scrabble is an educative game and kids are encouraged to play it often as it stimulates their minds. The giant outdoor Scrabble is especially good when you’re organising an outdoor activity and you’re hosting guests. It’s bigger than the regular Scrabble board, hence more people have access to see the game at the same time. It’s also more fun and engaging.
Artificial flowers
Not everyone has the patience required for gardening. If you are one of those people and still want the aura a garden gives, you can get artificial flowers. The flowers can also be used in creative manners by kids. This will provide a colourful backyard for you.
Tightrope
If you ever went to NYSC camp or saw pictures of friends climbing ropes, then you can have an idea what this is. It’s a thing you can have in your backyard if you want. You can set up lower ones with a shorter length for kids. It helps with coordination and motor development.  Tightropes are known to provide hours of fun for kids of different ages.
Outdoor Easel
You can make your own outdoor chalkboard paint. Apply coats of the paint to a large piece of plywood. Once it’s dried, hang the finished drawing station at kid height. Kids can always return to the board to paint.
Make a Hammock Swing
This is another thing many Nigerians think it’s luxury without knowing they have easy access to it. You can make a hammock, the major thing required is trees or a material such as wood or metal to attach the hammock to. Other materials can easily be obtained. Cool evenings can be spent lying on the hammock and reading a book.
