Enugu State known as the coal city-state is located in southeastern Nigeria. It was created in 1991 from the old Anambra state, with its capital being Enugu. The word "Enugu" (from Enu Ugwu) means "the top of the hill", it gained township status in 1927 and became strategic to British interests, even prompting foreign businesses to move into Enugu. Enugu shares boundaries with Anambra on the West, Abia State on the South, Kogi on the North while Benue and Ebonyi on the East.
