 Smallest State in Nigeria

Lagos state is the smallest state in Nigeria of all the 36 Nigerian states with a size of only 3,345 square kilometers. It may seem unreal but it’s actually very true that Lagos is the smallest Nigerian State.

  The Tallest Building in Nigeria

Lagos state plays host to the tallest building in Nigeria. NECOM house towers is the tallest building in Nigeria. This building is 160m(520 ft) above the city of Lagos.

 Third mainland bridge

Lagos state has the longest bridge in Nigeria. In the past, the third mainland bridge was the longest bridge in Africa until 1996 when the 6th October Bridge located in Cairo was completed.The bridge is 11.8km in length.  The Third Mainland Bridge is the longest of three bridges connecting Lagos Island to the mainland, the other is the Eko and Carter bridges. The bridge was built by Julius Berger Nigeria PLC and opened by President Ibrahim Babangida.

 Lagos Means ‘Lakes’

The name “Lagos” is said to have been given by a Portuguese explorer, Rui de Sequeira when he visited the area in the year 1472. Lagos means lakes.

Lagos has a high population density

It seems rather unusual that the state has a high population density considering its size as the smallest state in Nigeria. It is still a bit unknown what the real population size of Lagos since it is impossible to count millions of people who come in search of opportunities from all parts of the country.

 Port

Lagos is a port city, an important transport hub of the country. Lagos ports handle four-fifth of Nigeria’s imports and 70 percent of exports. The Apapa port is estimated to be the fifth busiest port in West Africa.
