Balogun is a residential area with most of the houses not gated. With roads that are tarred, Balogun road is lined with a lot of roadside traders in Balogun, the street is also characterized by the presence of a good number of local food vendors, there a also lots of local bars where residents chill out to friends and drink at night and some times during the day. Most of the people in Balogun are traders and artisans. The security in Balogun is average as there are no visible uniformed security men.

Private cars, public buses, taxis, tricycles (Maruwa) and motorcycles are the means of transportation in Balogun. Most of the private cars as well as public buses and tricycles are found parked along the street, which makes the road look a lot smaller than it really is. The drainage system here lacks proper maintenance.

What To Expect

Expect a peaceable lifestyle with people sitting in front of most houses without gates, having fun and at the same time doing their day to day business without paying extra rent or leaving their comfort zone.You will expect a group of friendly people. Sure the people in Balogun have their down times but they generally know how to have fun. There are a few working class people in the environment.

There are lots of street hawkers found in Balogun especially during the day, expect to see men fixing their cars by the side of the road, due to number of cars parked here, the road becomes smaller and accommodates less people than it should.

The Lifestyle

Balogun street, Ikejais usually less busy during the day, with most residents sitting in front of their houses or at the shops attending to few customers. The street becomes a bit busy towards the early evening with other residents finding their way back home or people plying this route to get to other areas in Ikeja.

There are a few Christian religious centres situated here including Kingdom Purpose Assembly, Sherperdfield Chapel, Divine Connection Chapel. Balogun Street houses no mosque, although it is in good proximity to some located in other areas in Ikeja.

Balogun Street at night can be pretty bored when compared to lively areas in Ikeja such as Ikeja GRA, Allen Avenue, Obafemi Awolowo Way among others. You mostly find residents outside their houses with friends or relatives, gisting or just chilling and enjoying the night. Howbeit, their are some leisure hotspots close by which serves residents and visitors in the area.

The Market

In the real sense, Balogun Street actually doesn’t need a market, as the number small shops and stores housed here can make up for a large market. There are also roadside containers and kiosk on the street. A walk around Balogun reveals the presence of some tyre sellers as well as spare part dealers carrying out their business activities in Balogun bus stop. The fun loving environment and a lot of roadside food sellers should be expected. Many fun lovers and the lower middle-class Lagosians live here. Balogun nestles a number of food canteens such as Gracious Kitchen, Kitchen Base 2 canteen, Biljay. 

There is no major mall because the neighbourhood is majorly residential. However, Balogun is in close proximity to the Ikeja City Mall as well as other fun centres in bustling areas in Ikeja like Allen Avenue, Obafemi Awolowo Way, Opebi, Toyin Street among other.
