The word “Sabo” is derived from Hausa language and it means “New”. Sabo is popularly known as the Silicon Valley of Lagos (Yabacon Valley), it is a commercial area and the home of many technology startups in Lagos like; Go My Way, Andela, Techpoint, Crusaders, Jovago (now Jumia Travel) all located at Sabo.
Overtime, Sabo has experienced steady and tremendous growth owing to the existence of lots of technology companies, financial organizations and other tech-driven businesses in the neighbourhood. The area was the foremost stop made by Mark Zuckerberg (CEO and Co-founder of Facebook) on his visit to Nigeria, where he visited the Co-Creation Hub, Nigeria’s first open living lab and pre-incubation space. Sabo is therefore characterized by the presence of business owners, business leaders, top tech entrepreneurs, investors and others.
Working class people and fun lovers are the bulk of the residents in this environment. Most of the people seen in the area are Hausas since the name Sabo has a Hausa origin. There are also a few Yoruba residents in the area. Sabo being a major control centre for technology in Lagos, has brought a lot of development its way in terms of tech companies, business entreprises and others. The neighbourhood of Sabo is quite serene and the standard of living here is moderate. Expect to see different types of transport within the area, including commercial buses (yellow buses), taxis, motorbikes (Okada), cars and tricycles (Keke Maruwa), which convey residents, commuters and visitors to various parts of Sabo and outside the neighbourhood. The Sabo-Yaba roundabout connects to others parts of Sabo including Commercial Avenue, Aje Road. There are also streetlights that lighten up the area at night, as well as flowers and trees that beautiful some spheres.
Sabo boasts of a good network of road, a central police checkpoint and a fair supply of power. Nightlife at Sabo is lovely. There is usually traffic in the area during rush hours. There is a police station in the neighbourhood. A major church in the area is the Anglican Church. There are a good number of notable schools here which includes; Prudent Private School, Childville Schools, and Divine Favour School.
The Sabo Market is the perfect shopping location for foodstuff and groceries, the market serves residents and visitors in Sabo as well as residents of other areas in Yaba. People from other areas also patronise this market. Goods here are sold at affordable price. There are also a good number of fruit sellers in the area. Supermarkets in Sabo includes Chizzy Supermarket, Domino Store, Mrs Temitayo Store, Chidi Venture, Mummy Nifemi Store.
The sumptuous local delicacies, as well as various fast food offered in the fun places in Sabo, will make any fun-lover opt to reside here. E-Centre, which houses the popular Ozone Cinemas is the most popular recreation centre here. White House is best known for its mouthwatering local delicacies ranging from Amala, Ewedu, Abuja, Jollof rice and assorted meat of any kind. A treat at White House will remain memorable.
Banilux Bar, also located at Sabo, has a lot on their menu like well-chilled drinks, beer and wines, pepper soup (beef, chicken, and fish), Nkwobi, Barbeque (chicken and beef), noodles, chips and so on. Popular hotels in the area include; Deke Hotel, The Snug, and Niger Palace Hotel. Domino’s Pizza and Coldstone Creamery are also very close to Sabo. It sits on the ground floor of a building partitioned into two with Coldstone Creamery right above. Domino’s is undoubtedly one of the best places to enjoy pizza in Lagos, the environment is clean and conducive, the staff are also also friendly and helpful. You can enjoy delicious pizza of various sizes and variety of toppings. The pizza restaurant also offers delivery service and take-outs for customers who do not want to eat in.
White House Restaurant is situated in Chapel Street, Sabo, Yaba, Lagos. It is a popular restaurant that sells cheap food in Yaba. The restaurant is patronized mostly by students and young people as they get a good quantity of food at an affordable price. It is a hub for fun and entertaining activities as there is a lot to do here. The E-Centre houses a shopping mall on the ground floor, bars restaurants, retail shops, viewing centre, nightlclub, a cinema (which has four different halls) and others. The environment is well maintained, security guards at various points, there are also ATMs available. The place gets crowded during weekends however it is an interesting place to hangout with friends or alone.

Ozone Cinema is nestled in E-Centre Mall, 1-11 Commercial Avenue, Sabo Yaba. The cinema is strategically located in Sabo, Yaba. There are about 4 halls, 6 screens and 931 seats in the cinema. It is a perfect leisure spot for students and young people, on some says, customers get free pop-corn and drinks while they watch high profile and blockbuster movies.
