Baruten is a Local Government Area (LGA) in Kwara State, Nigeria. It is located in the northern part of the state and shares a border with the Republic of Benin. The headquarters of the LGA is in the town of Kosubosu.

The population of Baruten LGA, according to the 2006 Nigerian census, was 103,065. The major ethnic groups in the area are the Bariba, Fulani, Yoruba, and Nupe.
