Awgu LGA (Local Government Area) is a local government area in Enugu State, Nigeria. It has its headquarters in the town of Awgu and covers an area of approximately 758 square kilometers. The population of Awgu LGA is estimated to be around 223,595 according to the 2006 national census.

The area is predominantly inhabited by the Igbo people, who are mainly engaged in agriculture, trading, and other small-scale businesses. Some of the major crops grown in the area include cassava, yam, rice, maize, and vegetables.

Awgu LGA is home to several notable landmarks and tourist attractions, including the Nike Lake Resort, the Mmaku Cave, and the Okigwe-Ugwuaji Forest Reserve. The area also has a rich cultural heritage, with various traditional festivals and ceremonies celebrated throughout the year.

Despite the presence of these natural and cultural resources, Awgu LGA faces several developmental challenges, including poor road infrastructure, inadequate healthcare facilities, and limited access to education. However, efforts are being made by the government and other stakeholders to address these challenges and improve the standard of living in the area.
