Lagos Island or Isale Eko as it is sometimes called is majorly a commercial area on the Lagos Island in Lagos state. It is also a Local Government Area in Lagos state that covers the western half of the Lagos Island as the Eastern half is under the Eti Osa local government area of Lagos state. Lagos Island is connected to the Lagos Mainland by three wide bridges which cross the Lagos Lagoon to the district of Ebute Metta, it is also linked to the neighbouring Island of Ikoyi and to Victoria Island. Based on History, Lagos Island was home to the Brazilian Quarter of Lagos where a majority of the slave trade returnees from Brazil settled. It is one of the most crowded areas in Lagos state but the state government has made plans to build new roads over the lagoon to improve traffic flows. Lagos Island is also home to the Oba of Lagos.
