Laminate is a multi-layer synthetic flooring that is similar to hardwood flooring but has a core usually made from plywood or medium density fiberboard with a plastic laminated top layer. Laminate flooring provides a very durable surface that is easy to maintain but it cannot be refinished; they are available in different patterns which can resemble wood, ceramic tile or stones and usually cost less. Underlayment may be required for laminate flooring to provide noise control.
